Nestled in the heart of Porthmadog, the Royal Sportsman Hotel is a charming find that beautifully marries traditional Welsh hospitality with modern comforts. My recent Christmas stay, accompanied by two close friends, was a delightful retreat into history, enhanced by touches of local culture. The restaurant's seasonal menu wowed us with its focus on fresh, local ingredients, while the bar offered a tempting selection of cask ales - perfect after a day exploring nearby Snowdonia. Breakfast was a highlight, served in a contemporary dining room adorned with original features; it set us up nicely for our adventures ahead. While the hotel doesn't have a lift, the spacious, well-appointed rooms made our stay comfortable, and the friendly staff added a personal touch that often feels lost in larger chain hotels. Parking was straightforward, making it easy to start our days exploring. In essence, the Royal Sportsman Hotel offers a heart-warming blend of charm and comfort, ideal for anyone seeking a quiet base with excellent food, and easy access to the best of North Wales. I'm already looking forward to returning for another visit!
